Experience: Freelance IT Consultant

Recently all the freelance projects I have worked on have involved website development. I have worked both as the sole developer and as part of a larger team. Almost all my clients approach me after being referred from a previous client. I specialise in content management systems, customised to each clients needs.

Working with , managing director of Studio Richards I re-developed his company website. Central to the portfolio was a simple method for Simon to showcase work previously undertaken by his company. Simon came to me with a design in hand, referred by Jim Dunne, the founding member of the Design21C initiative. I had previously worked with Jim and members of the Design21C to develop their website. Developing the Design21C site required working with a designer via e-mail and VoIP communication as he is based abroad.

The majority of the web-development work I undertake is based on the Drupal platform. A content management system, Drupal is highly extensible and enables me, as a developer, to take fine-grained control of every aspect of a web project. In order to keep my skills in check I am active in the Irish Drupal community, both via the online Irish Drupal Group and at DrupalCamp events that take place around Ireland several times a year. The most recent Irish DrupalCamp took place in County Clare and was called DrupalWest. I volunteered my time and expertise and presented my best practice when developing a new Drupal site to eager Drupallers.
